Pre-K2 Comprehensive Curriculum Overview

Reading

  • Beginning reading skills are introduced with a focus on sounds and rhymes.

Spelling

  • Identify upper and lower case letters, understand and recognize beginning, middle, and ending sounds.

Language Arts

  • Learn and understand the concept of how words come together to form sentences.
  • Learn parts of a sentence. (i.e. Subjects, Verb, etc)
  • Identify antonyms and synonyms.

Spanish

  • Identify basic vocabulary terms & basic commands.

Math

  • Sort, compare, and contrast objects.
  • Learn calendar skills with weather and seasons.
  • Comprehend numbers and amounts.
  • Count and recognize numbers 1-20.
  • Discover and create patterns.
  • Name and recognize shapes.
  • Practice with money and counting coins.

Science

  • Explore primary and secondary colors.
  • Identify the five senses.
  • Understand the concept of weather and the four seasons.
  • Understand the differences between living and non-living things.
  • Introduction to the solar system.

Social Studies

  • Develop positive self concepts and awareness as well as multicultural awareness.
  • Discuss history, special events, and holidays.
  • Understand and practice classroom and social rules.
  • Introduce the concept of maps and globes.

Computer Technology

  • Learn basic functions of the computer.
  • Develop techniques for handling & controlling various input devices.
  • Increase confidence in users with age-appropriate software programs.
  • Teach students by demonstrating knowledge of simple technology terms such as mouse, keyboard, printer and email.

Art

  • Children will use a variety of art materials to express themselves including tempera paint, watercolors, colored pencils, oil pastels, art chalk and clay.
  • We will also focus on the development of fine motor skills by creating torn paper collage and Australian dot paintings.

Physical Education

  • Develop basic gross motor skills and an understanding of good sportsmanship through cooperative play.
